History of Baliakandi subdivision:

The name Baliakandi is a combination of ‘Bali’ and ‘Kandi’. Baliakandi was under the Vusonna Porgona in the sixteenth century. At that time Landlord Mukundo Ram was ruler. In the time of British Reign, Baliakandi was under Vulua Porgona. When Kumarkhali was created in 1857, Baliakandi was under it. Baliakandi was created after the historical battle named ‘Nil Bidroho’ in between the year of 1959-60. Both Baliakandi and Pangsha subdivision was under Kushtia in 1871. Till 1983 Baliakandi was named as a Thana (Police Station), but later that year (18.07) all P.S was named as subdivision and Baliakandi was born as a subdivision.
